Photo Gallery — 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off & Membership Drive

The first documented chili cook-off took place in 1967 in Terlingua, a remote ghost town in Texas's Big Bend country that was revitalized by its annual contests. The idea spread like good gossip, and since that time, communities large and small have been hosting annual competitions to determine who makes the best chili.

FINZ Dallas Dive Group decided it was time to put down it's roots and have it's very own Chili Cook-Off competition! Contestants entered the 1st Annual FINZ Chili Cook-Off with some prize-winning, lip-smacking, tasty chili!

 

How can you go wrong with entries like Buzzard Breath, Lone Star Kentucky Cat's Chili, Gobbly Good Heart Smart Turkey Chili or Captain Jim's Best? Tasting became a serious art-form as the crowd watched with anticipation for a winner to be announced. The winner of the 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off goes to Gobbly Good Heart Smart Turkey Chili cooked by Fran Melancon! UGLY Hat contest winner goes to Sam Thomas! Congratulations to all and a BIG BIG thanks to our host, Bennett Cowper for a great time! Other big winners were renewing member Tammy Murphy and new member E.L. Dunn. They both won the $150 Gift Certificates to Scuba Toys!
